What is Teewe?

The Teewe HDMI Dongle is a smart device that connects wirelessly to your home Wi-Fi and lets you stream offline and online media to your TV. Using your smartphone as the remote control and the content display medium, Teewe brings you all your content in a nice usable interface.

Teewe works with devices you already own, including Android smartphones and tablets, Windows and Mac laptops. Browse for what to watch, control playback, and adjust volume using the smartphone, tablet, or laptop you already know and love.

What can I play on Teewe?

What do I need to get started with Teewe?

You need the following to setup Teewe in your home:

  • A Television or Projector with an HDMI input
  • A WiFi network setup in your home with a WiFi router. For recommended WiFi settings click here "wifisettings"
  • A power source to connect the power adapter provided with Teewe.
  • An Android (4.0 and above) or iOS (7.0 or above) device to setup Teewe.
  • An internet connection of 4 Mbps or above is recommended for streaming online content.

How do I know if my WiFi router supports Teewe?

Teewe needs a WiFi network setup by a WiFi router for smooth operation. The router needs to be Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n compatible. Plug and play WiFi dongles and WiFi hotspots created by Android smart-devices are not recommended.

Teewe is compatible with most WiFi routers currently available in the market such as D-Link, Netgear, Cisco, Beetel and Binatone and have found it to work with most of them which are currently available in the market. However, there is an off chance that your WiFi router may not be compatible with Teewe. Please do check router compatibility and recommended router settings here "wifisettings"

Can I carry Teewe along when I travel?

Yes you can carry your Teewe with you. You would need to set it up when you connect it to a new WiFi network. But please keep in mind that for Teewe to work the router needs to have Device to Device communication enabled, which is not the case in most hotels, offices and corporate setups.

Can multiple people use Teewe to play their video at the same time?

Yes, as long as you are on the same wifi network and have the Teewe App installed, multiple people can play content on the Teewe Device.

Is it possible for me to mirror my phone screen?

Mirroring of a phone screen is not supported. This feature is only available through our Teewe Desktop Application.

Will I be able to play a YouTube video through my phone?

Yes, you will be able to play the YouTube videos from your smartphone using our Teewe application.

Will I be able to play my mobile games on Teewe?

No, you would not be able to play mobile games on Teewe.

Can I browse the Internet on Teewe through phone?

No, you would not be able to browse the internet on Teewe using your smartphone.

Will I be able to watch my mobile apps on Teewe?

No, Teewe HDMI dongle can only be accessed through Teewe application for your smartphone.

What are the video formats supported by Teewe?

Most video formats are supported by Teewe like .mp4, avi, 3gp, flv.

Will I be able to watch videos stored on my PC and smartphone?

Yes, you can play video, audio, image files through Teewe. All you have to do is add folders containing the media and all the files will be categorized and will be available on the desktop application.

Can I mirror my Desktop/Laptop screen?

Yes, screen mirroring is supported by our desktop application.

Which operating system does Teewe support?

Teewe support most of the operating systems available including Windows vista, windows 7, windows 8, windows 8.1, OSX and many flavors of Linux.

What are the video formats supported?

Most video formats are supported by Teewe like mp4, avi, 3gp, flv.

Does Teewe support Network Attached Storage (NAS)?

This feature is coming soon to Teewe.

What do I need to get started with Teewe?

To get started with Teewe all you need is a Teewe device, a Wi-Fi network, and a mobile device for the setup process. Plug in the Teewe device into the HDMI port of your Television and download the Teewe app on your smartphone. Complete the setup and you are good to go.

Can I play my Teewe using mobile hotspot?

Yes, Teewe can be used on a hotspot but it is not recommended as mobile hotspot might lack certain features essential for Teewe to work properly.

Do I always need an Internet connection to play videos on my Teewe?

If you are trying to play videos stored on your phone or PC than internet connection is not required, the videos will be streamed using your Wi-Fi network. To play online videos like YouTube videos then internet connection is required.

What is the internet speed required?

The minimum recommended speed to play normal quality videos is 2Mbps, and to play HD quality videos internet speed should be 4Mbps or higher.

Can I face problems using Wi-Fi repeater?

You should not face any problems using Wi-Fi repeater.

Which Wi-Fi router support Teewe?

We have tested Teewe with a number of Wi-Fi routers manufactured by major companies such as D-Link, Netgear, Cisco, Beetel and Binatone and have found it to work with most of them which are currently available in the market. However, there is an off chance that your Wi-Fi router may not be compatible with Teewe. Below are some routers that are incompatible and not recommended for use with the Teewe device:

Will Teewe work on my projector?

Yes, if the projector has a HDMI input then Teewe will work with a projector.

Will Teewe work on my monitor?

Yes, if the monitor has a HDMI input then Teewe will work with the monitor.

How do I use Teewe?

Get started in a few easy steps:

  • Plug in: Plug Teewe into the HDMI port on your TV, connect the USB power cable to your Teewe, and plug the other end into a power outlet using the included power adapter (recommended), or into an open USB port on your TV (this might not work with some TV models and hence not recommended).
  • Set up: Download the Teewe app on your smartphone and set up your Teewe. Setup is to tell your Teewe which WiFi network to connect to and its password. Setup is a one-time process unless you change WiFi network.
  • Watch: Watch videos, movies, TV shows and more from your smartphone, tablet or laptop to your TV using the app on your smartphone

To help things go smoothly, make sure you have the following before you purchase Teewe:

  • A display device with an HDMI input, for example, a high-definition television (HDTV)
  • Access to an available power outlet or an available (non-service) USB port on your HDMI-enabled display
  • A secure wireless network (make sure you have the wireless network password handy)
  • An android or iOS smartphone or tablet

Please note that Teewe does not support Hidden SSIDs and needs the router to broadcast the network name.

How do I plug in Teewe?

Please follow the below steps to plug in your TV steps

  • Plug one end of the USB power adapter into your Teewe's Micro USB port and then plug the power adapter into a power source.
  • Plug your Teewe into any open HDMI input on your TV.
  • If you're having trouble fitting Teewe into your TV's HDMI port, or if you need to improve your Wi-Fi reception, try using the HDMI extender that came in the Teewe box.
  • Please make sure that the Teewe device is pushed in firmly into the HDMI input port. Don't worry. It will not break.
  • Once your Teewe is plugged in, you should see the Teewe setup screen. If you do not see the Teewe setup screen on your TV after plugging in Teewe, use the Input or Source button on your TV's remote control to change the input to the HDMI port Teewe is plugged in to.

How do I set up my Teewe using Android phone or tablet?

You can set up your Teewe in a snap using an Android phone or tablet. You only need to set up your Teewe once (again if you change the WiFi network) - you can use Teewe from additional supported devices without having to set up Teewe again. Before you begin the setup process, make sure you are connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi network and that your router is configured to the recommended settings listed here "wifisettings"

  • Go to Google Play and download the smartphone app
  • Plug in your Teewe dongle and wait for setup-step 1 screen to show on your TV screen. If this screen is not visible try changing the input source of your TV to the correct HDMI port or restart the dongle. . Also please check if the device is plugged in fully into the HDMI input.
  • Open the Teewe app on your smartphone and it should identify the device with this screen on your phone. Select "Yes" to setup your Teewe device.
  • The Teewe App will connect to the Teewe device you are trying to setup. Confirm the device number on the Teewe App. (This number is random and will change every time)
  • After the smartphone has connected to the Teewe device, you can name your Teewe device. We suggest something like "Teewe Living Room".
  • After naming your device, choose the WiFi network on which you want to setup your Teewe device. Select the home WiFi network or the network that your phone generally connects to. Your smartphone and Teewe device would need to be on the same WiFi network so that they can communicate with each other.
  • After you enter the password, Teewe device will try to connect to the home network. Your phone will also be connected to home network. Once both the devices are on the same network, Teewe app will try to communicate with the Teewe device
  • If you have entered the correct password, Setup will be complete and the Teewe device will proceed to the Ready-to-Play screen (Home screen). The App will also show a success screen.
  • After the setup is complete, you will not be asked to setup the device again unless you change your home network settings. This screen (Home screen) is shown when the device is setup and is ready to play content.
  • Your smartphone app will also identify that setup is complete and will connect to the device and will proceed to this screen

How do I set up my Teewe using iPhone or iPad?

You can set up your Teewe device on your Home WiFi network using your iOS device (iPhone or iPad). You only need to set up your Teewe once (again if you change the WiFi network) - you can use Teewe from additional supported devices without having to set up Teewe again. Before you begin the setup process, make sure you are connected to a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi network and that your router is configured to the recommended settings listed here "wifisettings"

  • Go to the Appstore on your iOS device and download the Teewe app. If you are using an iPad, please select iPhone apps when you search for Teewe in the Appstore.
  • Plug in your Teewe dongle and wait for setup-step 1 screen to show on your TV screen. If this screen is not visible try changing the input source of your TV to the correct HDMI port or restart the dongle. Also please check if the device is plugged in fully into the HDMI input.
  • You should see the following screen on your Television once Teewe has completed booting up
  • Open the Teewe app on your iOS device. If you are opening the app for the first time, you will be prompted to set up your Teewe device.
  • If you have already opened the app before and want to begin setup again, you can do so from the app settings. Tap on the app drawer icon in the top left of the app home screen and open Settings. Once in settings select "Setup New Teewe Device"
  • You should now see the screen below on your iOS app. You now need to go to the iOS device's WiFi settings and connect to the WiFi network that you see on your television screen. The WiFi network will be named as "teeweXXXX" where XXXX are the 4 numbers that you see on your television screen under the image of the dongle. (This number is random and will change every time)
  • Once connected to this WiFi network, please re-open the app. It will automatically move forward to Step 2 of setup.
  • Once the App identifies that it is connected to the Teewe device, you can name your Teewe device. We suggest something like "Teewe Living Room"
  • After naming your device, choose the WiFi network on which you want to setup your Teewe device. Select the home WiFi network or the network that your phone generally connects to. Your iOS device and Teewe device would need to be on the same WiFi network so that they can communicate with each other. In the case that you do not see your WiFi network in the list, please refer the recommended router settings here "wifisettings"
  • After you enter the password, Teewe device will try to connect to that WiFi network. You should see the following screen on your Television.
  • In the meanwhile, please connect your iOS device to the same home WiFi network that you have just setup Teewe on.
  • Once the WiFi password is confirmed by the Teewe device you will see the following screen. Teewe is now setup on your home WiFi network.
  • Now, on the iOS app, please connect to the Teewe device by tapping on the bottom blue bar which says "Select a Teewe Device". You should see a list of Teewe devices on your Home network. Tap on the name that you have given to your Teewe device. If you have more than one Teewe devices, you can use this button to toggle between them.
  • Your Teewe device and the iOS app are now connected to each other via your WiFi network. You can now browse content within the app and stream it on your Television screen via Teewe. Happy watching!

How do I play YouTube on Teewe using my phone/tablet?

Teewe integrates YouTube seamlessly for you to use, giving you a variety of options ranging from searching for YouTube videos to accessing your subscribed channel videos

To play any content from your phone please make sure your Teewe device is plugged in and TV Screen is showing the "Ready to Play screen" (Home screen)

  • Open Teewe app on your smartphone and you will notice "YouTube" menu on the home screen. The YouTube video thumbnails here can be swiped left/right to access more videos
  • You can select a video directly from this list or select YouTube and see more options such as subscribed video feed, recommended videos, subscribed channels, etc.
  • Alternatively, you can search for specific videos using the search function on home screen.
  • Once, you have selected the video you want to watch, you will have an option to play the video on phone (in case there is no Teewe device nearby), play on Teewe and add the video to queue (to be played after currently playing videos)

How do I play Phone files on Teewe?

Teewe automatically searches for all kind of media content - be it videos, audio or photos stored on your smartphone and makes it instantly available for you to play on your TV

To play any content from your phone please make sure your Teewe device is plugged in and TV Screen is showing the "Ready to Play screen" (Home screen)

  • Open Teewe app on your smartphone and you will notice "Phone Files" menu on the home screen. The Phone file thumbnails here can be swiped left/right to access more videos
  • You can select a file directly from this list or select "Phone Files" and see the files categorised as videos, audio and photos
  • Alternatively, you can search for specific videos using the search function on home screen.
  • Once, you have selected the file you want to watch, you will have an option to play the video on phone (in case there is no Teewe device nearby), play on Teewe and add the video to queue (to be played after currently playing videos)

How do I play Laptop/PC files on Teewe?

Teewe automatically searches for all kind of media content - be it videos, audio or photos stored on your smartphone and makes it instantly available for you to play on your TV

To play any content from your laptop please make sure your Teewe device is plugged in and TV Screen is showing the "Ready to Play screen" (Home screen)

Please make sure that your laptop is on the same network as your Teewe. Also make sure that the Teewe desktop app is running.

  • Open Teewe desktop app on your laptop and you will see all the files that you have added to the directory. The Teewe desktop app will automatically categorise, sort and add metadata to your media and then present it in a nice media-center manner.
  • Place your mouse pointer over the file that you wish to play. You will see a play (arrow head) and queue (plus) button. Pressing play will start streaming the file to Teewe immediately while queue will play this after the current playing files are over.

You can also play laptop files (added to Teewe desktop app) to your Teewe using your smartphone. The Teewe desktop app should be running on your laptop and both the phone and laptop should be on the same network as the Teewe device.

To play any content from your laptop please make sure your Teewe dongle is plugged in and TV Screen is showing the "Ready to Play screen" (Home screen)

  • Open Teewe app on your smartphone and you will see the name of your PC.
  • Click on the PC name and you will be able to see all the files that are added to the Teewe desktop App. You can select and play them exactly like one plays Phone Files.

How do I mirror my laptop screen to Teewe?

Teewe provides you the capability to mirror your laptop screen to your Teewe at the push of a button.

To mirror your laptop screen to Teewe, please make sure your Teewe device is plugged in and TV Screen is showing the "Ready to Play screen" (Home screen)

Please make sure that your laptop is on the same network as your Teewe. Also make sure that the Teewe desktop app is running.

  • Open Teewe desktop app and you will see the Mirror Screen button on bottom right of the app.

If you click on the Mirror Screen button, the mirroring settings will appear on the screen. Here you can adjust the quality for mirroring. Please note that the lag will depend on the settings in use and the hardware configuration of the PC and the router.

  • Click on the red button and it will turn green. Your laptop screen is now being mirrored on your Teewe. To stop mirroring, click again on the green button. The mirroring will stop and the button will become red again.

How do I use Teewe Chrome extension?

The Teewe Chrome extension enables you to stream videos from its numerous supported websites to your television screen. The extension also allows you to mirror your chrome tab to your television screen.

I plugged Teewe into my television but I do not see any display on TV.

There is a small blue/red LED light near the Teewe logo. Is this light ON?

No display on TV and the LED is OFF.
  • The most probable reason is that there is no proper power supply to Teewe device. Please make sure that the power adapter is firmly connected
  • There is a small green LED light on the power adapter itself to indicate if it is receiving power. Make sure that it is ON
  • If the green light on power adapter is OFF, try using a mobile charger ( 1 Amp and above) or USB cable (if your TV has a powered USB port)
  • If all the above fails, please write to us or call us on our support helpline. Our support ninjas are waiting for a chance to help you
No display on TV and the LED is ON.
  • The most probable reason is that the HDMI port is not plugged in fully. Please make sure that the Teewe device is pushed in firmly into the HDMI input port. Don't worry. It will not break
  • In rare cases, the HDMI extension cable might be faulty. If you were using the HDMI extension cable earlier, try connecting Teewe device directly into your television

Device is stuck on Loading screen

  • This might be a one-time event. Please reboot the device
  • If the issue persists, please write to us or call us on our support helpline

I do not see my WiFi network in the "Choose your wifi network" list during Setup

  • Your WiFi network was not up and running when Teewe started setup. Please make sure that your router is powered on and broadcasting the network and then reboot the Teewe device. Then retry setup again
  • Your WiFi network's SSID may be hidden. Teewe does not support hidden SSID's. Please make sure that your router is broadcasting the SSID publicly and retry setting up Teewe.
  • There may be an issue with how your WiFi network is configured. Please check the recommended router settings here "wifisettings"

My Teewe is setup on my WiFi network but Teewe App does not detect / connect to Teewe device

  • Please ensure that your Teewe device is powered on and set up on your WiFi network. Also make sure that the smart device with the Teewe app is also on the same network.
  • Your Teewe device may be in setup mode. Please first setup your Teewe device on your WiFi network. You can manually start setup from the Teewe App from the settings page.
  • There may be an issue with how your WiFi network is configured. Please do check the recommended router settings here "wifisettings" and then retry setting up Teewe.
